DCI rankings

Q: What is DCI?
A: DCI stands for Duelists Convocation International.  It is an organization of Magic players.  DCI releases tournament rules and rankings of its members.  ManaLink™ uses the DCI tournament rules and the DCI ranking system in an unofficial manner to better regulate the ways in which games of Magic are played.

Q: How about this weird ranking system?
A: There are two ways to answer this question, the easy way and the complicated way:

easy:1600 is the average ranking.  If you play an opponent with a higher ranking than you, you will either lose a few points (if you lose the game) or you will gain a lot of points (if you win).  If you play an opponent with a lower ranking than you, you will either lose a lot of points (if you lose the game) or you will gain a few points (if you win).
complex:For the following calculations:
  • W: probability of Winning
  • YR: Your current Ranking
  • OR: Opponent's current Ranking
  • NR: New Ranking
  • PR: Previous Ranking
  • S: Score for the match (1 for a win, 0 for a loss, 0.5 for a tie)
  • DM: Difficulty Multiplier (32 if PR < 1100, 16 if PR > 1099 and PR < 2100, 24 if PR > 2099)
chance of winning formula:

         1
    -----------
W = OR - YR
    ------- + 1
      40

After the match, the new ranking formula is used for each player:

NR = PR + (DM * (S - W))

Oh, and please remember that this ranking is unofficial.
